In Memoriam: Douglas R. Halstrom, Esq.
L’Abbate Balkan Colavita & Contini, LLP is devastated to share that our partner and friend, Douglas Halstrom, passed away this week after a long battle with cancer. Over the course of more than 35 years with the firm, Doug built a distinguished legal career and became an important part of LBC&C's history.
Mr. Halstrom joined the firm immediately following his graduation from St. Louis University School of Law in 1990. He never practiced at another firm – something rarely seen in today’s legal environment. He was admitted to the Bar in 1991 and became a partner of the Firm in 2000. Mr. Halstrom served on the firm’s management committee since 2021.
As a member of the firm’s Design Professionals Practice Group, Mr. Halstrom devoted much of his career to the defense of architects and engineers in professional liability matters. His practice also included the representation of owners, general contractors, construction managers and design professionals in a wide range of commercial matters and contractual disputes, appearing on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, as well as the representation of land surveyors, professional planners, geotechnical engineers and other design professionals.
Mr. Halstrom’s skill and professionalism were recognized throughout the legal community. He held the Martindale-Hubbell® AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rating, its highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards, and was selected annually beginning in 2019 to the Metro Edition of New York Super Lawyers® in the area of Construction Litigation.
Doug was an avid golfer, runner (completing 8 marathons!) and sports fan (especially his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes), but he cherished the time he spent with his wife Robin, their daughter Amanda and her husband Jonah, their son Jared and his fiancé Sarah, and their granddaughter Emma.
We are deeply saddened by Doug’s passing and will remember with gratitude his many years of dedication to the firm, his colleagues and his clients. His family’s wishes as far as charitable memorial gifts is as follows:
