The programs offered will feature the collective knowledge and experience of eleven prominent #AEC attorneys from eight firms in the tri-state region.

All courses will be submitted for AIA CES credits.  This is a virtual event.

Partner Douglas R. Halstrom will be co-presenting the following programs:

The Architect's Guide to Contract Administration
Friday Oct 14, 2022 - 10:00 - 11:30 AM
Construction administration can be the source of a lot of claims and, sometimes, the source of liability for an architect.  However, it is not a part of the project for which you should avoid taking responsibility either.  This program will address how to identify potential problems in construction administration so you can effectively discharge your obligation while simultaneously avoiding liability for construction errors, workplace accidents, unnecessary change orders, etc.  This program will identify best practices and approaches to effectively administer construction by better understanding your role during construction and striving for effective communication among owner, contractor and architect.  It will also address how documenting the nature of your work during construction and communicating effectively will put you in a position to be able to defend yourself if there is a conflict down the road.

Professional Liability Insurance Policy – What Architects Need to Know
Friday Oct 21, 2022 - 01:00 - 02:30 PM
Protect yourself while continuing to provide top-notch services to clients.  Architects who design buildings for commercial and/or residential use need to examine professional and general liability insurance to protect themselves from claims and lawsuits.  But do you understand the policy you have?  Learn what the terms indemnity, warranty and arbitration provisions mean to you.  This seminar provides a coordinated solution integrating good business practices and risk management resources.

Legal Trends Roundtable: Where We’ve Been and Where We’re Going
Friday Oct 28, 2022 - 10:00 - 11:30 AM
Building off Parts 1, 2, 3 & 4 of the Legal Series, the attorneys will provide an overview of best practices for contract administration, understanding ethical and conduct issues, the changing human resource landscape, and evolving laws concerning design professional liability. The panel will also discuss how performance-based energy codes such as LL97 in New York City, are impacting the industry. The session will culminate with an exploration of future legal trends that may impact the architecture industry.
