On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Partner Douglas Halstrom presented a virtual 60-minute seminar to AIA Peconic entitled, "Study Presentation on AIA Document B101: Standard Form of Agreement Between Owner and Architect." Mr. Halstrom serves AIA Peconic as Counsel.
Attendees learned the ins and outs of the B101 Form, and left with a deeper understanding of how that particular agreement is used within building design and construction contract administration services. This informative program was hosted by the AIA Peconic Emerging Professionals Committee, and was free to attend for all members and nonmembers alike.

AIA Peconic is a local chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and is affiliated with AIA of New York State. AIA Peconic is a non-profit professional organization representing the interests of, and providing services to, over 200 Architects, Architectural Interns, affiliated design professionals and Allied Members on the East End of Long Island. AIA Services include monitoring legislative issues and government regulations at the local, state and national levels; professional liability insurance programs; professional development and educational seminars; design assistance teams to further community planning and development; design awards programs; and support of aspiring architects through an annual scholarship program.
Partner Douglas R. Halstrom has been with L’Abbate, Balkan, Colavita & Contini, L.L.P since his admission to the Bar in 1991. His practice primarily concentrates in the defense of architects and engineers professional liability claims. Mr. Halstrom has past experience with lawyers and accountants malpractice claims as well. He has also handled various commercial matters and contractual disputes on behalf of owners, general contractors, construction managers and design professionals on both the plaintiff’s and the defendant’s side.
Mr. Halstrom’s background includes extensive litigation experience in the Courts of New York and New Jersey on both the trial and appellate levels. He received his Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University School of Law in 1990. Notably, Mr. Halstrom holds the Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Rating AV® Preeminent, its highest rating for ethics and legal ability. He has also been selected as a Super Lawyer in the area of Construction Litigation in the Metro Edition of New York Super Lawyers® annually since 2019.
